Day 1

The journey begins we head east through the historic forestry town of Jarrahdale. Continuing east our next stop was at the Codjatotine School site. The old Coranning school was relocated to this site in 1939 for the cost of £130. The school opened in 1940 until 1946. The site is now a small roadside campsite with toilets. Our next stop was for a Wookie pit stop at the Corrigin dog cemetery which is a tribute to man’s best friend. We paused briefly at Gorge Rock for a snack and to stretch our legs. One of many similar rocks across the wheatbelt that were utilised by aboriginals and early settlers as a water source. A short walk leads you to the rock pool and panoramic views of the surrounding area. Shortly after the rock is a strange looking tree that has been welded together. Further along the road, we came across the Kondinin Lake statues created by Kelly Browning out of star pickets. The lake changes to a yellow-green colour around November each year. Our final stop for the day was at McCann Rock campground, the rock named after the original settler Peter McCann in 1926.
